Fernando Alonso criticizes the brief pre-season F1 testing, advocating for extended sessions to ensure better competition readiness.
Last year, Fernando Alonso expressed frustration over the limited testing opportunities for Formula 1 drivers. The Aston Martin F1 driver lamented that pre-season winter testing lasted only three days.
“F1 is the only sport in the world where you get a day and a half of training… then you compete in a world championship,” he said, noting that the three days are divided between the drivers of the teams.
The Spaniard has raised the issue again this year and is still dismayed that nothing has changed. He believes there should be at least four days of testing, and that teams should be allowed to bring two cars, especially as the first race is quickly approaching.
“We have very limited testing in Bahrain. I’ve thought about this all winter, how unfair it is that we only get a day and a half to prepare for a world championship.”
“There’s no other sport in the world, with all the money involved, all the marketing, and all the good things we say about Formula 1 and being closer to the fans, where this happens.”

“I don’t understand why we don’t go to Bahrain for four days, which could be two and two for the drivers. If you go to three, which is not even, an odd number, you can’t split it between the drivers.”
“And I don’t know why we don’t start with two cars. Because we’re already in Bahrain and racing the following week.”
Last year, George Russell also commented on this, comparing it to tennis: “Can you imagine Rafael Nadal not hitting a ball for 12 weeks and then going to play Roland Garros with a day and a half of practice? That would never happen. Doing three days with two cars would be a good solution.”
