Sergio Pérez has committed his Formula 1 future to Cadillac, signing a multi-year contract extension that will keep the Mexican driver with the American team until at least 2029.
Cadillac confirmed the agreement on Wednesday, ending recent uncertainty surrounding Pérez’s future and securing his services for the next three seasons.
The announcement comes ahead of a significant weekend for the Mexican driver, who is set to make his 300th Formula 1 Grand Prix appearance on home soil at the Mexican Grand Prix.
Despite recently expressing some doubts about his future, Pérez has reaffirmed his commitment to Cadillac’s long-term project, with both parties agreeing to continue their partnership.
The American manufacturer highlighted Pérez’s experience, leadership and technical feedback as important assets during its first season in Formula 1, as the team continues working to establish itself in the championship.
“Joining Cadillac F1 from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like the natural next step in this chapter,” Pérez said.
“Building a Formula 1 team from scratch takes time, relentless hard work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us, and I am fully committed for the next three years.”
Pérez also thanked Dan Towriss, Mark Reuss and the wider TWG Motorsports and General Motors organisations for their continued confidence in him.
“To everyone in this special team, at the circuits, in the United States and the United Kingdom, and to our fans, thank you for your support and trust. I will not let you down. Let’s keep giving everything!”
Cadillac Secures Continuity as 2027 Teammate Question Remains
Cadillac F1 and TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss welcomed the agreement, emphasising the importance of continuity as the American outfit looks to build on its first season.
“Ahead of a special weekend in Mexico City, we are delighted to announce that Checo will remain a key part of Cadillac F1 for years to come,” Towriss said.
“Building a competitive Formula 1 team is a long-term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to strengthen the solid foundations established during our first year.”
Towriss added that the team remains focused on making further progress and moving up the Formula 1 grid.
While Pérez’s future is now settled, uncertainty remains over who will partner him in 2027.
Valtteri Bottas faces questions over his position, while Esteban Ocon is another potential option. American driver Colton Herta is also being considered, with his nationality potentially strengthening his appeal to General Motors.
Herta could take a significant step towards securing an F1 seat as early as Friday in Mexico, when he may become eligible for a Super Licence.
For Pérez, however, the immediate focus is on his home Grand Prix, where he will celebrate his 300th Formula 1 appearance with his long-term future at Cadillac now confirmed.
