Scuderia AlphaTauri F1 Team is the designated sister team of Red Bull Racing in Formula 1. Formerly known as Toro Rosso, the team underwent a name change in 2020 while retaining its core identity. In 2023, Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries continue to represent this Italian-Austrian outfit based in Faenza. The team’s leadership is under the guidance of team principal Franz Tost, with driver selections influenced by Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko.
Origin of Scuderia AlphaTauri F1 Team
Scuderia Toro Rosso emerged as a satellite team in 2006, evolving from the remnants of Minardi, a team that struggled to achieve podium finishes or competitive standing in the sport. Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz acquired the team, transforming it into Red Bull Racing’s development squad. Since the acquisition, the team’s fortunes improved significantly. Sebastian Vettel elevated Toro Rosso’s performance, securing a notable victory at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix. The team continues to garner points consistently, with drivers such as Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo making significant contributions. In 2020, Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly took the reins of the Scuderia AlphaTauri race seats.
The decision to adopt the name Scuderia AlphaTauri F1 Team stems from the establishment of a Red Bull-affiliated clothing brand in 2016 named AlphaTauri. Having both Red Bull and Toro Rosso names in the sport essentially meant double advertising for the same product. The name change to Scuderia AlphaTauri F1 Team in 2020 aimed to streamline the branding. In the 2020 Constructors’ Championship, AlphaTauri secured a commendable seventh-place finish. While there were moments when it seemed they might surpass Ferrari in the standings, the margin fell just short by 24 points. The team’s impressive point tally was partly attributed to Pierre Gasly’s standout performances during the season.
