The new Formula 1 GP in Madrid is expected to be officially announced within less than a week.
It has been known for some time that the project to organize a semi-urban Formula 1 race around the Ifema event facilities in the Spanish capital is well underway.
Europa Press reports today that Isabel Diaz Ayuso, President of the Madrid community, and Mayor José Luis Martinez-Almeida, are ready to make an official announcement.
“I believe that no administration or country could reject such a project,” Ayuso said.
In her New Year’s speech, Ayuso added, “On January 23, there will be a big announcement.”
“Madrid and Spain can bring so much that I hope to see both administrations make the announcement that day.”
Mayor Almeida also commented, “I have a space reserved in the agenda on the 23rd for very good sports news for Madrid.”
The Spanish sports newspaper Marca claims that F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali will also be present at the announcement next Tuesday.
It is believed that the initial contract for the Madrid GP will be for ten years and could potentially replace the existing Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.
