Aston Martin F1 endures a challenging triple-header, with Brazil marking yet another disappointing weekend for the Silverstone-based team.
Aston Martin F1 faces a challenging end to the season. Fernando Alonso has struggled with health issues, while Lance Stroll made a costly error during the Brazilian Grand Prix. Both drivers also collided with the barriers during qualifying.
Reflecting on the triple-header in Austin, Mexico, and Interlagos, team principal Mike Krack acknowledges that these three races were tough for the Silverstone-based team, which failed to score a single point.
“Interlagos—a special place for motorsport—ended up being a weekend to forget for our team. A gruelling triple-header with no points, which has had consequences for the team, both trackside and at the factory,” Krack remarked.
“Looking for positives, it was a Herculean effort from both race crews to get both cars to the grid on time, working against tight deadlines. Special recognition goes to the FIA and F1 for their pragmatic and flexible approach to the schedule, allowing drivers and teams to deliver a show for South America’s passionate fans.”
“On the formation lap, there appeared to be a braking issue with Lance’s car. He managed a restart, but the AMR24 ended up in the gravel, cutting his race day short. We’ll need to conduct a thorough investigation to understand the cause, as it was unexpected.”
“Fernando was in the points for much of the race but later lost control and dropped to the back of the field. He was visibly uncomfortable on the bumpy track towards the end, so our priority is ensuring he’s well.”
Krack emphasises that the responsibility lies with the team, not the drivers: “Given our recent performance levels, we must take responsibility for not providing Lance and Fernando with the car they deserve. They’ve been incredibly patient, but we’re asking too much of them at the moment.”
