Despite setbacks, Alonso pushed to finish, honouring both his team and those affected by floods in Valencia.
Fernando Alonso endured a painful finish to his Brazilian Grand Prix, securing 14th place.
Following a crash in qualifying, he was determined to see the race through, despite back pain from the track’s bumps. He expressed his motivation: “I wanted to do it to thank my mechanics and pay tribute to the people suffering so much due to the floods in Valencia.”
“Overall, it was a challenging day. We had to replace a few components after the qualifying crash, which slowed the car a bit. We also had a brake issue after the restart.”
“The car really started bouncing in the second half of the race – under other circumstances, I would have stopped – but the mechanics did an excellent job preparing the car after the crash, so I finished the race for them and my fellow Valencians affected by the flooding.”
“The triple-header hasn’t been easy for us, and there’s another one coming. We need to regroup and find more performance.”
Lance Stroll didn’t even make it to the start, going off track during the formation lap. He suspects an issue with the reassembly of his car, which was also damaged in a qualifying accident earlier that day.
“It was really strange. I felt like I had a brake failure because as soon as I touched the brakes, the rear axle locked, and I was just a passenger. I got stuck in the gravel, and my race was over. It’s really disappointing, as in a wet race like today’s, anything is possible, but we couldn’t take those opportunities.”
