Pierre Gasly’s solid Sprint result narrows Alpine’s gap to Williams, strengthening the team’s position in the championship standings.
Pierre Gasly finished seventh in the Sprint at Interlagos, Brazil, and the Alpine F1 driver expressed his delight with a result that adds two more points to his team’s tally. He was particularly pleased with his pace within the pack and his ability to fend off Sergio Pérez.
“It was a good race, very tough, but I’m really pleased. We started seventh, managed to finish seventh, and kept Pérez behind until the end, even though it was tight,” said the French driver.
As a result, Alpine now sits just one point behind Williams in the standings. Gasly is hopeful of extending his strong run of top-10 qualifying finishes later today and aims to score more points in the race. However, he notes that Alpine must address tyre degradation issues to stay competitive.
“We managed to be the best team in the midfield behind the front-runners. It was tough with the tyres; there are things to improve for tomorrow, as we experienced heavy degradation, which was hard to manage. So there’s room for improvement,” he explained.
