Ollie Bearman will replace Kevin Magnussen in the Haas seat this Friday as the Dane recovers from illness at the Sao Paulo GP.
Kevin Magnussen will be unable to participate in the opening hours of this Friday’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix due to illness.
Ollie Bearman has been swiftly called up to take his place behind the wheel of the Haas VF-24 in Brazil.
There is still no confirmation as to whether Magnussen will be able to return on Saturday for the race’s qualifying session. If a comeback is possible, it will only be after the Sprint race, meaning he would rejoin directly for the Grand Prix qualifiers.
“Kevin Magnussen will not participate in Friday’s running session at the São Paulo Grand Prix due to illness,” Haas announced in a statement.
“Official reserve driver Oliver Bearman will step in. The team wishes Kevin a speedy recovery and will provide updates in due course.”
Bearman is the official reserve driver for the team, and he has also secured his race seat for 2025.
The young Briton has already competed in two F1 Grands Prix this season—once for Ferrari and once for Haas F1.
This stint will offer him even more valuable—and unexpected—experience behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car in Sao Paulo.
The Sao Paulo Grand Prix is a sprint weekend, meaning Bearman’s tasks on Friday will deviate from the traditional routine.
He will first participate in a practice session, then in the sprint qualifying, and finally in the Sprint race tomorrow.
In Azerbaijan, when Bearman drove the Haas, he set the 10th fastest time during Friday’s practice session.
