Sainz Eyes New Victory but McLaren Dominates at Interlagos

Ferrari’s Sainz Driven for Wins, Yet McLaren Holds Edge

31/10/2024

Carlos Sainz, fresh from his Mexico triumph, aims for glory at Interlagos but faces stiff competition from McLaren’s well-suited cars.

Carlos Sainz arrived at the Interlagos paddock still buoyed by the enthusiasm of his recent victory in Mexico.

The Spaniard wore a broad smile as he reflected on this triumph and looked ahead to the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix.

“I really wanted another win before leaving the team, and achieving that in Mexico, in front of my family, brought me to tears; it’s unforgettable. The night after the race, I took everyone out to dinner, and we celebrated until two in the morning. We really needed that!”

“The win hasn’t made me relax; it’s given me even more motivation and the drive to perform well,” he noted.

“If there’s another chance to win, we’ll do everything we can to seize it and support the team in the Constructors’ Championship race.”

Sainz doesn’t see Ferrari as the favourite this weekend.

“I think this track is better suited to our rivals’ cars, especially McLaren’s, but our goal has to be to stay within the right group. If we manage that, we can fight for a spot in the top five or even for a podium or a win if others fall short. Making the most of the single hour of practice available this weekend will be crucial.”

Sainz was then asked how he feels about leaving Scuderia at the end of the season.

“I still don’t want to think about the fact that, come year’s end, I won’t be with this team anymore. But looking back, I can only be proud of what we’ve achieved together. We’ve grown the car year after year, and this season too, we managed to address weaknesses and bring the car to a level of competitiveness that it probably hadn’t reached before.”
