Pirelli selects tire compounds for the season’s last three races, balancing performance and durability for an exciting finale on varied tracks.
The Formula 1 season finale is nearing, with the last three races set for Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. Pirelli has revealed its tire selections for these events, choices that, as in 2023, aim to maximize performance and strategy for the drivers.
Las Vegas: The Softest Tires Under the Lights
The first race in this trio will take place in Las Vegas from November 21-23. For this night race on the Strip, teams will have access to the softest compounds: C3 (hard), C4 (medium), and C5 (soft). This spectacular street circuit, weaving through the iconic city lights, promises a memorable atmosphere and unique challenges for the tires, which must deliver grip and precision at high speeds.
Qatar: Tougher Compounds for a Demanding Track
Next up is Qatar, from November 28-30 at the Losail circuit. With its layout demanding excellent grip in fast corners, this race puts tires to the test, similar to technical circuits like Silverstone and Suzuka. Pirelli has selected the hardest compounds in response: C1 (hard), C2 (medium), and C3 (soft), ensuring better durability and heat management.
Abu Dhabi: Ending the Season in Style
The final race, in Abu Dhabi, will take place from December 6-8 at the Yas Marina circuit. For this finale, the same soft tires as in Las Vegas will be available: C3, C4, and C5. This choice will allow teams to maximize speed and strategy in the season’s decisive last race under the lights.
One Last Test Day to Prepare for 2024
After the final race, teams will have a test day on December 10 in Abu Dhabi. During this session, each team will field two cars: one for young drivers testing the 2024 tires, and another to validate the final versions of next year’s tires.
With these tire selections, Pirelli aims to deliver an exciting spectacle while ensuring safety and performance on varied circuits.
