McLaren F1 seeks critical points in Brazil, leveraging the Sprint format to strengthen its championship standing this weekend at Interlagos.
Lando Norris is pleased with his weekend in Mexico, finishing in second place. The McLaren F1 driver knows the São Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos will be crucial for his world title chances and those of his team.
“It’s great to head into this weekend after finishing second in Mexico. We’ve had two intense weeks with back-to-back races, so getting a good result before going to Brazil is a big plus,” Norris said.
“The São Paulo Grand Prix is a fun weekend. The fans always give us a warm welcome, and it’s a great city to visit. With another Sprint weekend, there are more points up for grabs.”
Oscar Piastri is eager to move past his disappointing results in Mexico and hopes to return to the podium on a track he enjoys: “I’m really happy to be heading back to Brazil this weekend. It’s an iconic circuit and a Sprint weekend, giving us more chances to score points.”
“We finished in the points here last year, so this time, we’re aiming for a podium. We’ve reviewed the weekend in Mexico, and now our focus is on what we can achieve in São Paulo. I’m ready for the challenge.”
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella also aims to move past a challenging weekend in Mexico to secure crucial championship points: “We now head to Brazil for the penultimate Sprint weekend of the 2024 season.”
“Mexico was a tough weekend, but there were many positives, including another successful set of upgrades, strong team resilience, and a well-executed race. We’re taking all these positives with us to Brazil, which motivates us to keep pushing in these final critical races.”
“As anticipated, the championship battle is incredibly tight, and our competitors continue to evolve and make their own gains. However, we remain focused on the work ahead and stay determined to deliver a fast car for our drivers and more points for the team.”
