Red Bull Hopes Fade for Lawson After Tough Mexico GP

Lawson: A ‘less than ideal’ race to convince Red Bull

Liam Lawson faces uncertainty after a challenging Mexico race, focusing on scoring crucial points in Brazil to secure his future.

Liam Lawson wished for a better race in Mexico to secure his future. The RB F1 driver believes he needs to be more consistent and avoid on-track incidents, like the one with Sergio Pérez, if he wants to convince Red Bull to recruit him.

“No, at this stage, I don’t know anything more about my future,” he told Sky Sports. “A race like this one isn’t ideal for that. I’m focusing on the upcoming races to recover and score points for the team. We lost points to Haas. After a weekend like this, I’m not thinking about that.”

His race also included an incident with Franco Colapinto, but he doesn’t blame the Argentinian: “Honestly, I left him space in Turn 2. He had more speed than I expected. I tried to get out of it but clipped his rear wheel. It’s not really his fault, just an awkward incident.”

The New Zealander is still pleased with showing good pace throughout the race, despite an unfavorable track position: “I think our pace was good, but we spent the whole race behind another car.”

“We had a few brief laps in clean air at the start, which we maximized while moving forward. Unfortunately, we couldn’t overtake. We had the pace to score points, but the track position wasn’t right.”
