Valtteri Bottas remains open to joining Mercedes as a reserve driver, keeping options open as he seeks longevity in Formula 1.

Valtteri Bottas has expressed renewed openness to returning to Mercedes F1, even as a reserve driver, as he seeks to extend his F1 career.

Bottas still has no seat for the 2025 F1 season, as he awaits a decision from Sauber/Audi.

The Finnish driver is regarded as the favored experienced candidate for the seat, though younger contenders like Franco Colapinto, Mick Schumacher, and Gabriel Bortoleto are also being considered.

“First of all, my priority is to remain a race driver. That’s what I want, and that’s what I’m pushing for with Mattia. But since I haven’t signed anything, and it’s October, I need to look at all options, including returning to Mercedes.”

“It’s an option, and I would consider it. There are other options, but my priority is to be a race driver in F1.”

Bottas also assessed his chances of performing a bit better this weekend with his C44.

“Yes, I’m optimistic. This is a low-grip track, an altitude track where the air is thin. It’s a fact that aerodynamics matter less here, and theoretically, all the cars should be closer together. And I also like this track, so I think it’s an opportunity for us.”
