Alpine Eyes Results Ocon to Debut Key Upgrades in Mexico

Alpine F1: Ocon hopes the upgrades will ‘work’ in Mexico

Esteban Ocon anticipates Alpine F1’s upgrades will deliver promising results during their debut this weekend in Mexico.

Esteban Ocon is pleased with the progress Alpine F1 made in the United States following the introduction of upgrades in Austin. However, the Alpine F1 driver acknowledges that the team is still striving for better results.

“It’s not the easiest situation; we would definitely like to see better results. We are seeing progress with the upgrades and hope they will work just as well this weekend. You never know until you’ve tested them, but I always want to finish on a high with Alpine and score points,” Ocon said.

“The biggest challenge on this circuit is finding grip and getting the tyres to work. It’s a shock coming from a low-altitude track—you lose tons of grip. You also have to adjust to the breathing, but I’m fortunate to have trained at altitude in the past. Still, it’s a tough challenge that we face every year because it’s the highest speed we encounter.”

When asked about the track limits debate, Ocon is convinced that the main issue lies with the circuits: “I think the core problem is what’s off the track. As long as we have tarmac, we’ll continue having these discussions. You don’t hear about it in Monaco or Baku.”

“The Red Bull Ring found a good solution by adding gravel. We’ll always have discussions, and we’ll never reach full agreement. It’s a tough issue, but it’s just too easy to go off track with these circuits, and that’s something we need to address as a priority.”
