Yuki Tsunoda finally secures a Red Bull F1 test after persistent requests, setting sights on a 2025 race seat.
Yuki Tsunoda has revealed that he had “requested multiple times” to test a Red Bull Formula 1 car.
Despite an impressive season with RB F1, Red Bull appears to remain sceptical about the prospect of Tsunoda joining the Red Bull Racing team.
Red Bull has overlooked him, even in light of Sergio Perez’s poor campaign, which has left him trailing teammate Max Verstappen by a significant 204 points.
However, Honda Racing Corporation President Koji Watanabe disclosed last weekend that Red Bull has not ruled out the possibility of Tsunoda being granted a test appearance in the future.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko later hinted that the team was discussing plans to put Tsunoda in one of their cars as early as the post-season test in Abu Dhabi.
“I think things will happen, I think, maybe,” said the Japanese driver in Mexico.
“But with Red Bull Racing, you never know until the day itself. So, I’m just focusing on what I need to do now.”
“I’ve asked several times, and Honda has clearly helped push for these tests. I’m very grateful to them.”
“Obviously, I’ve been pushing for this since the first race. Probably even last year.”
“It’s a mix of me being able to show results, making a bit more progress compared to last year, and Honda also having done their part, certainly pushing Red Bull as well.”
If the test does take place, Tsunoda acknowledged it would be a golden opportunity to prove to Red Bull that he deserves to be Verstappen’s teammate.
“Yes, it’s a great opportunity. At least I can finally show a bit of my driving to their engineers, and they can see how I drive. I think that’s very important. I’m finally being given the chance.”
“I don’t know yet if it’s going to happen or not. It’s not something I’ve heard directly from them, at least. So yes, I’ll try to make the most of the opportunity.”
