Hamilton responds to conspiracy theory about his frustrations at Mercedes F1

30/09/2024

Hamilton confronts rumors about his F1 frustrations, emphasizing a fearless approach to team discussions.

Lewis Hamilton insists that “things are going well” in the Mercedes F1 garage despite their strategic error at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix.

A strong qualifying session allowed Hamilton to start in third position on the grid, but he fell to sixth place during the race, behind his teammate George Russell.

The choice to start on soft tires—unlike many of his competitors—led to an early pit stop. Hamilton made his frustration clear over the team radio. Toto Wolff later acknowledged that Hamilton’s tire strategy was incorrect.

Since then, the conspiracy theory that Mercedes F1 no longer listens to Hamilton has gained traction on social media, to the extent that the seven-time world champion came out of his break to respond in person.

“Hello everyone, I’m currently focusing on training for the next race. I know there has been a lot of discussion about the last race and our strategy in Singapore that simply didn’t work.”

“When that happens, it’s natural to be frustrated, and it’s easy for me to express that frustration.”

“We knew that starting on soft tires was a bold and risky decision, but one that could give us an advantage at the start, and I ultimately agreed to this recommendation.”

“We also miscalculated what others might do.”

“Make no mistake, things are going well with the team. Like all successful partnerships, there are lows and highs.”

“We are not afraid of these delicate conversations and tough moments, which is why we have achieved so much together.”

“We will support each other to the end. That’s love. See you in Austin.”

David Coulthard admitted he was “surprised” by his compatriot’s discontent at the time, which justified the criticism on social media.

“He was clearly not happy in Singapore. He was unhappy with the strategy. I am surprised that this was even a topic of discussion. If you start from the grid with soft tires, you know you will be stopping earlier.”

“A medium tire could have worked wonders if there had been a safety car. All these ‘ifs,’ ‘buts,’ and ‘maybes.’ In the end, after a solid qualifying, it was a lackluster Grand Prix. And that anger at the end of the race further sent signals of doubt among his fans about the support from Mercedes F1 as he soon moves to Ferrari.”

Nico Rosberg noted a positive aspect for Hamilton.

“It’s great to see him getting his mojo back in qualifications right now. He was extremely strong in qualifications. He is one of the greatest of all time, even in qualifications. It’s good to remind others and Russell from time to time.”
