Williams F1 showed improved pace in Singapore, yet still left the race without securing any points.
Sven Smeets, Williams F1 sporting director, acknowledged that failing to score points in Singapore was disappointing after showing promising pace throughout the weekend. Franco Colapinto finished just outside the points, and Alex Albon retired.
“We were hoping to do better in Singapore as we had a solid car, so it’s a pity to leave without points,” Smeets stated. “After Franco’s only pit stop, we lost tenth place to Pérez.”
“Franco stayed close to him and Hülkenberg but failed to score. Nonetheless, Franco had a strong weekend under extremely challenging conditions for only his third Grand Prix, and we are pleased with his performance.”
“Regarding Alex’s race, it’s always disappointing to have to retire a car. We experienced cooling issues, but we must assess this in the coming days.”
“It’s clear that we have improved the car’s performance thanks to the developments made over the last races, but we failed to get everything right as a team this weekend to score points for the third consecutive time.”
Williams hopes to find areas for improvement in the coming weeks before the season’s final races: “We will now take advantage of this brief break in the schedule to analyze everything before the next set of triple-header races as there is still much at stake.”
