Norris: Facing Verstappen, I’m the one with nothing to lose

22/09/2024

Norris remains cool against Verstappen, eyeing his first world title with no pressure.

Lando Norris concedes that he is under no pressure to clinch his first world title.

Max Verstappen still holds a 59-point lead over the McLaren F1 driver, a comfortable margin which, however, appears to be narrowing. This gap could close even further if the British driver were to optimise his results more effectively.

Yet, Norris points out that the advantage remains with Verstappen.

“In terms of the championship, it’s still his to lose, not mine. I’m still the one who has nothing to lose at this moment.”

“If you look back at the start of the year, Red Bull was always dominant. They won the first four or five races of the season. Max secured the first eight pole positions of the year and they were beating us by larger margins than we were beating them.”

“They faced fewer challenges than us early in the year. So, they are even more in contention than we were at the start. We have managed to reverse the trend and at the same time, I firmly believe they can reverse it quite rapidly.”

“Actually, it’s only been the last two races where I’d say they’ve been a bit behind, both in qualifying and, probably more significantly, in the race.”
