Jos Verstappen Critical as Red Bull Slips Up

22/09/2024

Jos Verstappen questions Red Bull’s strategy ahead of the crucial Austin race.

Jos Verstappen has once again criticised the Red Bull team for “making mistakes” after a promising start to the F1 season.

The Milton Keynes-based outfit showed strong form in the opening series of races, appearing poised to dominate another F1 season.

However, they have recently slipped down the pecking order and have not won any of the last seven races, with McLaren taking the lead in the constructors’ championship.

When asked if this concerned the Verstappen camp, Jos replied: “Always worried! You want to win, of course.”

“Especially when you see how things went at the start of the season and how they are now. Red Bull has made significant errors.”

Red Bull will bring upgrades for the United States Grand Prix in an attempt to get back on track — but Verstappen remains unconvinced.

“We’ll see. I want to see the results, and then I can give you an answer.”

“In Singapore, it’s wait and see. Things haven’t been going very well lately, of course. Hopefully, they can turn it around and achieve a good result. Max has been very strong in qualifying but the race pace isn’t there.”

While Red Bull lags behind, Verstappen still holds a 59-point lead over Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship.

However, Jos Verstappen stressed that his son cannot afford to rest on his laurels.

“If something goes wrong for him, it will get very exciting between him and Lando. You have to be wary of retirements. But the results need to come regardless, otherwise Max will slowly see his lead eroded.”
