Hülkenberg Seeks Top Teammate at Audi F1

Audi F1’s Hülkenberg Wants Strong Teammate

30/08/2024

Nico Hülkenberg has tasked Mattia Binotto with finding the strongest possible teammate for his Audi F1 challenge.

Who Will Be Nico Hülkenberg’s New Teammate at Audi F1?

With Kimi Antonelli’s appointment at Mercedes, and aside from possible driver swaps at Red Bull Racing/RB F1, the only seat yet to be filled for 2025 is at Stake F1, the future Audi team.

Mattia Binotto, now heading Sauber again, surely has this decision high on his agenda. And there is no shortage of candidates. Among the serious contenders are Bottas, Zhou, Schumacher, Shwartzman, or Lawson, if he is released or loaned by the Red Bull family.

For Hülkenberg, is choosing his teammate one of the first tasks for his new boss?

“It certainly is part of it. But obviously, it’s just the beginning for him. He’s just joined the team. He needs to get a sense of the situation, get an idea of what’s happening, understand all the departments, the people. And then, I’m sure he has ideas to optimize it and take it further.”

“So, I guess that’s the process he is currently in, and he will start working on it. Ultimately, finding the second driver seems quite straightforward compared to everything else he has to do!”

Would he prefer youth or experience by his side? Bottas and Zhou have had discussions this week at the factory with Binotto. Could Hülkenberg work with one of the current drivers? With a young driver?

“To be honest, it’s an open subject. And it’s not my place to say. I have no say in the decision. But I’m open.”

“I would like to have the best and strongest teammate possible, because I think it takes two strong drivers. Formula 1 is incredibly competitive, so it’s important to have the best duo possible.”
