Monza Awaits Antonelli's F1 Debut Excitement

Antonelli Set for Thrilling F1 Debut at Monza

27/08/2024

Antonelli gears up for an exhilarating official F1 debut at Monza, marking a significant milestone in his racing career.

Confirmed Sunday night by Toto Wolff (read here), Andrea Kimi Antonelli says he is ready to make his official Formula 1 debut this weekend, during the first free practice sessions for Mercedes F1 at the Italian Grand Prix.

The Italian, who just celebrated his 18th birthday this Sunday, will race at home in Monza, where he will drive the W15 for the first time.

Antonelli has already completed several F1 tests with a 2021 Mercedes and a 2022 ground-effect Mercedes in preparation for his appointment, which is expected to be officially announced this weekend as well (Toto Wolff having already hinted at it extensively in Zandvoort).

“Participating in my first Free Practice 1 is going to be really special,” comments Antonelli.

“I am really excited to drive the W15 and to share the track with so many incredible drivers. I can’t wait!”

“Making my F1 debut in front of my home crowd is also amazing.”

“I look forward to learning a lot, but also contributing to the team’s weekend.”

Note that Wolff has ruled out lending Antonelli to Williams F1, in case James Vowles wishes to replace Logan Sargeant for the rest of the season. Williams might turn to Mick Schumacher within the Mercedes fold or Liam Lawson (on loan) from Red Bull.
