Vasseur: Ferrari Team’s Max Effort at Zandvoort

26/08/2024

Ferrari showcased a relentless drive at Zandvoort, with Vasseur praising their all-out effort.

Ferrari achieved a very solid overall result at the Dutch Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc taking third and Carlos Sainz finishing fifth, totaling 25 points. This outcome surprised their director, Fred Vasseur, after a disappointing qualifying session on Saturday.

“Yes, because we arrived at Zandvoort thinking it would be a challenging weekend for us. It was a difficult qualifying for various reasons, and we straightened everything out to extract all the potential that wasn’t victory,” Vasseur told Canal+.

“But we had two very good starts, two very good stops, a very good strategy, and very good tire management from both drivers, and the pace matched that of Max during the race. Charles managed to keep Piastri behind him and deserved this podium. We must be positive and appreciate this, even though we must keep in mind that Norris was far ahead and that we really need to focus on winning, not just third place. But next week, the track will suit us better, we’ll have some updates, and anything will be possible.”

Vasseur praised the team’s operational performance, and he hopes to do even better at Monza, also thanks to new updates: “I am satisfied that the team maximized our potential. If we had been told before the race that we would finish third and fifth, I would have signed with both hands.”

“I feel that at every level within the team, everyone did their utmost. Everything went well and it shows us that during difficult weekends, because there will be others, if we do the work, we can finish on the podium.”

“We are all in the process of developing the car, and every four or five races, we try to make a step forward. Today, it’s so tight that we finish four seconds behind Max, so it’s a tenth per lap. McLaren has made a good step forward with its updates, and it’s up to us to do the same next week.”

“There are still nine races to go, some will suit us better than others, and we need to see what we can do with the new package that’s coming, but this race was certainly a boost of confidence for the team. We will allow ourselves to enjoy this podium and we will focus on Monza.”
