Red Bull scales back Zandvoort upgrades, focusing on essential components, reveals Marko.
Max Verstappen has denied that Red Bull was required to remove a now illegal technical innovation from its 2024 car, the RB20.
It has been a challenging period for the formerly dominant Formula 1 team, amidst a downturn in performance, internal conflicts, and the loss of not only Adrian Newey but also Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley.
However, while the departure of high-profile team members is a significant blow for Red Bull, Verstappen maintains that a new FIA directive banning asymmetric braking systems is not targeting his team.
“I don’t know where that came from,” said the triple world champion, “but we don’t have that on the car, so it’s not a concern for us.”
There are no upgrades on Red Bull’s car for Zandvoort; in fact, the opposite is true: some parts have been removed.
“I prefer to talk about sorting through the upgrades rather than new ones,” concedes Marko.
“But I’m optimistic. We were not as bad as we thought recently. Analysis at the factory has identified a few mistakes made in the last races and we hope to reset here on a strong footing.”
“Qualifying will be particularly important here at Zandvoort.”
And Marko is somewhat confident.
“With McLaren, we are certainly among the favourites. Let’s see if the engineers have done a good job today with the free practice.”
