Albon welcomes Sainz to Williams F1, anticipating fresh strategies and perspectives for the team.
During the summer break, James Vowles, the team principal at Williams F1, announced that Carlos Sainz would become Alexander Albon’s teammate starting in 2025 at the British outfit.
Upon returning from his holiday, the Thai-British driver had the opportunity to react to this announcement at Zandvoort.
“He’s a top driver from a top team, with a lot of speed and experience. He obviously brings a lot of experience. He’s very highly regarded and it’s good to have him on board for our journey,” said Albon.
The former Red Bull driver is looking forward to Sainz’s insights on how to improve their car for the next season.
“I am particularly keen to see what he thinks. Having worked in a leading team and at Ferrari, like myself at Red Bull when I arrived, there are many things you want to try and change and things he would have picked up over his time with the new generation of cars that he can bring to Williams and make direct changes to see where our weaknesses lie.”
So far in 2024, Albon and Williams have scored four points, still hampered by the car’s overweight issues. Consequently, Albon is eagerly awaiting a fresh evaluation from the Spaniard.
“I’ve spent three years now driving the Williams and you get somewhat used to driving this car and it’s nice to have a fresh look at things, especially when it comes from someone who’s been in a top team, it always helps.”
“For the team, it’s great to have two top drivers and move forward with the project. We’ll be on an equal footing, of course. We have to raise our game; we can’t afford another year like this in 2025. Carlos, James, and I expect more.”
