Leclerc Hopes Weather Aids Ferrari at Zandvoort

22/08/2024

Leclerc counts on harsh weather to turn Zandvoort’s challenges into an advantage for Ferrari.

Ferrari May Struggle at Zandvoort’s Twisty Circuit This Weekend. However, Charles Leclerc is confident that the conditions—with strong winds expected this Friday and rain during qualifying—could play to his advantage, especially since the Scuderia has been able to better optimise its weekends.

“I think we can have a weekend similar to the last two, as the previous ones were not optimised. Once we understood what was wrong with the car, we were able to optimise our weekends, and the aim will be to maximise everything,” stated Leclerc.

“We might face challenges given the circuit, but if we do everything perfectly, with the strong wind tomorrow and the rain on Saturday, I think there will be an opportunity.”

The constructors’ title is still possible for Ferrari, which is 63 points behind Red Bull, but Leclerc remains cautious: “I will always believe in the constructors’ title as long as it is mathematically possible. But if we are being realistic, McLaren is very solid and has made significant progress.”

“Oscar and Lando are quick and have a very good car, so they are the first team to beat. But there is still time, McLaren and Red Bull have been stronger, and Mercedes has made significant strides, so we have work to do.”

When asked about the future of his teammate Carlos Sainz, Leclerc is confident he will be comfortable at Williams: “Carlos is very talented, but not only that. He’s a great driver for a team, for development. We’ve worked very well together, and one of his strengths is that he gets on very well with his teammates.”

“We saw this with Lando previously, and the same with me here at Ferrari. And while there can be competition on the track and sometimes tensions, as soon as we discuss things, there are no more problems. These are great qualities, but his greatest is his pace; he is very fast, and they will form an excellent duo with Alex.”
