Despite Tough Races Verstappen Remains Cool on Title

Verstappen Unfazed by Recent Challenges in Title Race

22/08/2024

Verstappen stays calm despite a series of challenging races, undeterred in his championship bid.

Max Verstappen appears to be on track to clinch his fourth World Championship title.

With a 78-point lead in the championship and tight competition behind him jostling for points, the Red Bull driver seems to have a reasonably comfortable cushion.

However, the second half of the season, comprising 10 races, could still hold surprises. And he is, naturally, cautious.

“If you look at the championship, Lando is the closest. But recently, you can see that there are many different cars winning races and drivers, of course. It’s very close, but that also makes it unpredictable.”

“Attention to detail and getting the car into the right operating window can really make a difference with so many teams and cars so closely matched. So yes, we’ll see what happens. It’s very hard to comment on that at the moment even though it’s nice to have a bit of a lead, obviously.”

Is he worried about the title and the championship given all these contenders?

“I’m not really worried. I’m also not thinking about Abu Dhabi at the moment. I just want to progress as a team. I want to improve the car. I know that if we improve our car, it will make our lives a bit easier.”

“The last few races have, of course, been somewhat challenging, though I think if we had started on pole at Spa, in our normal starting position without any penalties, we could still have won the race.”

“But the margins are very tight. That’s why qualifying is always very important. But yes, the more performative the car, the easier it becomes. That’s what we demonstrated last year.”
