Leclerc promises fierce competition against Hamilton as Ferrari unites two champions in 2025.
Charles Leclerc has outlined his mindset ahead of Lewis Hamilton joining Scuderia Ferrari next year.
Leclerc and Hamilton are set to form a formidable pairing at Ferrari starting in 2025, a duo bridging different eras each aiming for F1 titles: a first for the Monegasque and a record-breaking eighth for the Briton.
This partnership will test Leclerc as much as it will compel Hamilton to leverage all his skill.
“It will be incredible to have Lewis in the team. And, obviously, to have such an amazing champion in the same team as me, in the same car.”
“Firstly, it’s a tremendous opportunity to learn from one of the all-time greats.”
“Secondly, I think it’s also an incredible chance for me to show what I am capable of, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
“Growing up, I was on the karting tracks every weekend, and it was hard for me to follow a Formula 1 season. So I used to watch a few races and Lewis was undoubtedly one of the guys I admired.”
“In my first year in F1, I remember being very impressed and intimidated by all these incredible drivers, and Lewis is probably the best, so racing alongside him was surreal.”
Leclerc was asked if he would “show mercy” to the newcomer when Hamilton arrives at Ferrari next year.
“No, of course not! No quarter given, no, no, no – when I put the helmet on, all that goes away.”
“We change, we don’t think about who is who, and we just go for it.”
“Now, I will be racing with Lewis but also against him, so I have to forget this great name in the paddock and focus solely on my own performance every time I’m on track.”
