Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Hungaroring and Hockenheim circuits have launched significant renovations, eyeing enhanced futures in Formula 1.
As promised, the Hungaroring has commenced extensive, impressive renovations after committing to upgrade its facilities to extend its presence on the Formula 1 calendar, with the race guaranteed a spot until 2032.
Less than a month after hosting the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix, the circuit has demolished its entire paddock and the buildings comprising its infrastructure. The pit lane and track have also been subjected to the bulldozer, with the circuit celebrating on Twitter that it has already begun its modernisation.
“We told you it was coming… less than a month after the Hungarian GP, and the next phase of redevelopment work is already unfolding at F1 speed,” reads the latest post online on their page (see below).
The Hungaroring, like Monza, has secured its place by undertaking renovations and refreshments. At Hockenheim, however, this work is being done without a guarantee of F1’s return, but with the hope that it will.
The circuit has not hosted Formula 1 since 2019, but a group of investors has purchased the complex and will completely renovate the infrastructure and track, then apply to rejoin the premier single-seater category.
The Emodrom group has pledged to invest 250 million euros in the circuit over the next decade after buying 74.99% of the circuit’s shares for a modest six million euros.
“We have been working behind the scenes for over four years to continue developing the Hockenheimring as a leading circuit and we are now eager to undertake future-oriented projects. Of course, we are also thinking of Formula 1, but we approach these considerations with great caution,” said Tim Brauer, director of Emodrom.
Investors have already injected 40 million euros, and Brauer confirms the intention to modernize the infrastructure: “We won’t do anything financially reckless, but we are exploring ways to bring Formula 1 back to Germany.”
