Bearman Confronts Media Blessing and Curse with Antonelli

Bearman and Antonelli: A Dual-Edged Media Spotlight

18/08/2024

Bearman and Antonelli navigate media scrutiny—a balancing act of challenges and opportunities.

Ollie Bearman, set to be a Haas F1 driver next year, believes the media spotlight he is under is as much a curse as it is a blessing. He feels this is even more so for his F2 teammate, the promising young Mercedes protege, Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

“We face a similar issue,” Bearman stated. “Kimi and I, and probably Kimi more so, are receiving a lot of media attention, particularly because the results we are achieving are not quite what we had hoped for. It doesn’t make things easy, but it’s part of life.”

“The media will always do this, and it’s both a blessing and a curse. It’s about picking your battles wisely, and this type of approach, trying to maximise what we have, because that’s ultimately what it’s all about.”

Bearman is confident in Haas’s potential but is also gearing up to make the most of what the American team will provide: “If you have a car to finish P5, then you need to finish P5 and not seventh or eighth trying to do more.”

“That’s the mindset I’m working on, but at the same time, I genuinely feel that we can win, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be fighting for the podium a bit more often. We just need to make a small step to get there, and I will be spending a lot of time in the simulator for my own benefit, but also for the team’s.”

“This is something I really want to emphasize because many circuits will be new to me, so I want to make the transition as seamless as possible by spending a lot of time in the simulator.”
