Esteban Ocon voices frustration with Alpine F1’s disregard for driver feedback, highlighting communication failures.
When explaining his decision to leave Alpine F1—a decision he says was made over a year ago—Esteban Ocon pointed out his dissatisfaction with the working processes at Enstone regarding problem resolution.
According to the French driver, the A522, A523, and now the A524, all share similar weaknesses, a sentiment reinforced by Pierre Gasly, who did not experience the A522.
Can Ocon elaborate on what bothered him? What fueled his impatience?
“Yes, there are many things that have not progressed as they should have,” he stated.
“I think that from my side, from Fernando’s side, from Pierre’s side, from Daniel’s side, we have voiced many concerns about the development of the car, and unfortunately, at some point, there was a lack in the feedback loop.”
“We have provided feedback, but we really did not receive any feedback or confirmations in return. Sometimes, we were not listened to as we should have been, I would say.”
“With the A524, we are still dragging some issues that we had two years ago with the A522.”
“Yes, we have improved many other things, our F1 is faster than ever, but it would be so much better if the highlighted issues were resolved.”
“But we cannot wait years and years to resolve certain issues. And that’s what happened, the loop did not close. The problems have not been resolved as they should have been, which is frustrating.”
“It’s frustrating for everyone, because obviously, we do not have a car that functions as it is supposed to. That is what we have to live with.”
