Haas F1 Chief Promises Patience with Rookie Bearman

Komatsu Backs Bearman to Learn from Errors in Debut Year

11/08/2024

Haas F1’s Komatsu supports Bearman’s learning curve, emphasizing the value of making ‘the right mistakes’.

Haas F1 Team Director, Ayao Komatsu, has stated he will be patient with rookie Oliver Bearman in 2025.

Charles Leclerc had expressed his hope that Bearman would be afforded some leeway to err, given that Haas F1 has paired Bearman with the highly fast and experienced Esteban Ocon, which could prompt the British driver to overextend himself.

However, Komatsu has affirmed his willingness to be patient with his young driver.

“Let Charles be reassured! I believe we need to look at individual mistakes, so to speak. Every situation is different. We must judge it within its context.”

“It could be the right mistake to make, it could be the wrong one. It really depends on the context – where you are in the championship, where you are on the grid, what stage of the race you are in, whether it’s a race to build rhythm, or a race to be conservative?”

“So, it depends on the context. But the fact is that Ollie very much understands the bigger picture. Therefore, I expect that if he is to make a mistake, he’ll do it in the right way, if you will. It’s not something for which he’ll be shouted at, if you will.”
