Alonso’s confidence boosts him into Q3 at Spa, while teammate Stroll exits early in Q2.

Fernando Alonso reached Q3 at Spa-Francorchamps, bolstered by a car that instilled confidence in him. The Aston Martin F1 driver delivered a solid performance, expressing satisfaction after a challenging Friday in Belgium.

“I think we should be pleased with our qualifying. We were more competitive in this session and I felt confident to push in these conditions. The weekend has been tough for me; I had issues in practice and qualifying turned out to be the best session for me,” Alonso stated.

“We are heading into the unknown for the race, and that’s the same for everyone. There are two types of asphalt; the new one has a lot of grip but we don’t know what the degradation will be like. The advantage after qualifying in the rain is that we will have all tyres available, so we won’t compromise our pace and can really push.”

Lance Stroll was eliminated in Q2 but it could have been worse for the Canadian following his accident in FP3. He thanked his team for the repairs made and hopes to make progress in the race.

“It was a tough session, I lacked grip and balance, but the guys did a great job rebuilding the car,” Stroll remarked. “I think the race will decide everything, overtaking is possible, so we’ll see what we can achieve.”
