Williams F1 shows promise at Spa, with Albon facing timing challenges in FP2.
Williams F1 displayed commendable form today in Belgium during the first and second practice sessions, although the lap times don’t fully reflect this.
Alex Albon was frequently among the top 10, even the top 5, but ultimately recorded the 17th fastest time.
“The car performed well today. The first practice session was very good, though not entirely indicative of our current pace,” he explained.
“In the second practice, our times reversed, but I believe we’re somewhere in between. We had a solid stint on the medium tyres, then switched to the softs and encountered a lot of traffic and disruption, which prevented me from setting a better time.”
“However, I don’t think we’re in a bad position, despite certain areas needing improvement. For tomorrow, with a bit of fine-tuning and work on the tyres, I think we’ll be competitive for Q3, but time will tell.”
Logan Sargeant, just behind his teammate in 18th position, appeared to lack a bit of pace.
“Today was challenging. I felt like something was missing for most of the day, but we identified it towards the end, which makes a significant difference,” he said.
“I’m not very pleased with low fuel loads, and I’m really unhappy with high fuel loads, so we need to make some adjustments. It will be tricky and wet tomorrow, and the weekend is far from over.”
“I know what’s not working right, and I’m leaving it to the engineers to figure out what to do. We’ve been in this position before; it won’t be perfect, but we should arrive at a better operational window. We’ll do our best to manage whatever comes our way, but today was not our best day.”
