Magnussen Thrives, Hulkenberg Falters at Haas F1

Haas F1 sees varied results: Magnussen excels while Hulkenberg faces challenges on track.

Kevin Magnussen experienced a better first day at the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit compared to his teammate.

The Dane, who clocked the eighth fastest time in Free Practice 2, appears content with the baseline settings for the VF-24.

“It was a fairly good day; we explored various downforce levels and it’s always challenging to pick the right one at Spa. The nature of the track straddles different downforce levels and with the weather, there’s also the risk of having to race in the rain—it’s not an easy situation but it’s the same for everyone.”

“Posting a very fast lap doesn’t really matter here, even though it always means something to start from the front, but you can overtake quite easily here during the race. You need a good race pace, and we looked strong in FP2, so we’ll see.”

Nico Hulkenberg, on the other hand, was 16th and spoke of “a challenging Friday in some respects.”

“I didn’t feel very comfortable in the car, so we need to analyze the data overnight and find a bit more balance and harmony between the car’s balance and performance.”

“We learned some things today, so it’s about putting it all together tomorrow and assembling the best package.”

“The weather for qualifying could be quite different from Sunday’s, so we’ll need to make a decision on the settings and downforce, which will be interesting.”
