RB F1’s Opening Day Success, Ricciardo Eyes Rain

26/07/2024

RB F1 shines on day one; Ricciardo preps for a rainy advantage this Saturday.

Daniel Ricciardo enjoyed a full day on a dry track at the Belgian Grand Prix, even though he found himself in the latter half of the standings. The RB F1 driver believes he is prepared for the race despite the rainy day forecast for tomorrow.

“The rain woke me up several times last night, and I was expecting a typical Spa day with wet conditions and clouds, but it was dry, which is good. They’ve resurfaced the track, which is a positive development. It was a genuine testing day, and we made good progress in FP2,” noted the Australian.

“It will be dry for the race, and having driven in dry conditions today, we were able to gather some insights. It will rain tomorrow, which is exciting; you don’t get much time to adapt, you find spots on the asphalt with more grip, others with less. We’ve already raced at Spa in the rain because it always rains here! But it could work out well for us.”

Yuki Tsunoda will start from the back of the grid with a brand new engine setup, and he has tried to prepare thoroughly for the race, although he acknowledges a challenging weekend lies ahead.

“It was quite tough, but we identified the issue, particularly what we were lacking compared to the other car. I hope we can fix that for tomorrow. Besides that, I’m trying to maximise my performance and assist Daniel,” stated the Japanese driver.

“The surface is good, softer, and offers more grip. It’s interesting because it’s a mix of old and new tarmac. The old is still there at turns 12 and 13 and lacks grip, but the grip is really better in the other turns.”
