In Hungary, Williams F1 faced challenges, with Albon impacted by Alonso’s tactical play to aid Stroll.
Williams F1 failed to capitalize on the Hungarian Grand Prix to add even a single point to their tally.
Alex Albon finished 14th and expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s race strategy, which altered mid-way through the second stint.
“We need to understand what happened today. I think we lacked consistency in our strategy. Had we not emerged behind Fernando at the first stop, we would have been fine, but since he was playing the team game and assisting Lance, it impacted our race. We planned for two stops, then shifted to three, so I began to push the tyres, but we reverted to two, thus had to extend the stint, and by that time, the tyres were worn. Despite our disappointment, we’ve gleaned valuable lessons from these hot conditions.”
Logan Sargeant also drove a clean race, finishing 17th.
“Today was decent. I was disappointed with my start, and it’s a tough battle from there. From a pace perspective, it was a good day, and overall, aside from my start, I’m pleased with my weekend. The car performed better here than last year, which is positive, but it was a challenging race. I did my best to recover as much as I could and we tried being aggressive with the stops, but it didn’t really pay off and we ended up in dirty air, which increased degradation. We will carry on and try to improve for Spa.”
Sven Smeets, the sporting director, noted the ongoing progress needed for Williams F1.
“With the cloud cover slowly clearing before the race start and high track temperatures reappearing, we knew it would be crucial to find clean air and pit at the right times.”
“Alex had an excellent start but ended up stuck behind the Astons. Unfortunately, we couldn’t pass Fernando after the first stop, who was aiding his teammate in the race. From there, the race became challenging for Alex, who ultimately finished in 14th place.”
“Logan had a tough start and lost positions, consistently finding himself in dirty air after each stop but showed flashes of good pace throughout his stints.”
“An underwhelming afternoon, yet we have still learned a great deal in these warm conditions, making progress since Barcelona, which is promising. Now, we turn our attention to Belgium, which should suit our car much better.”
