Netflix unveils ‘Senna’, a six-part series exploring the illustrious career of the F1 triple champion.
Netflix has officially announced the release date for its six-episode series on Ayrton Senna. Following the documentary series ‘Drive to Survive’ and the documentary ‘Schumacher’, this marks the third F1-focused programme to debut on the platform.
Titled ‘Senna’, the series will premiere on November 29 on Netflix, and will delve into the life of the Brazilian icon, exploring his relationships with other drivers off the track, as well as his personal character development.
“Over the course of six episodes, ‘Senna’ will, for the first time, portray the challenges overcome, the highs and lows, the joys and the sorrows of Ayrton, exploring his personality and personal relationships,” the broadcaster stated.
“The narrative will commence from the early days of the triple Formula 1 world champion’s racing career when he moved to England to compete in Formula Ford, leading up to the tragic accident at Imola, Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix.”
The series features Gabriel Leone as Senna and Matt Mella as his rival Alain Prost. It was created in partnership with Senna’s family. Several family members and friends are depicted in the series, including his mother and father, as well as his friend, Adriane Galisteu.
Nevertheless, it is hoped that the story and its portrayal will remain faithful to reality and objective about the Brazilian driver’s case. It is worth noting that the 2010 documentary also named ‘Senna’ was criticized for its Manichean portrayal, casting him as the hero and Alain Prost as his nemesis.
