Audi F1 Partners with BP and Castrol for 2026 Launch

15/07/2024

Audi F1 has announced a pivotal partnership with BP and Castrol, set to supply fuels and lubricants for the team’s 2026 debut.

Audi F1 has announced that BP and Castrol will respectively supply the fuels and lubricants for the project starting in 2026. This marks the first official partner for the German brand, which will enter Formula 1 under the new regulations.

Currently, BP and Castrol are already involved in Formula 1 with Alpine, as both brands appear on the A524 cars of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. However, this does not determine the future of the French team, whose Renault engine could be abandoned, as BP and Castrol could partner with multiple teams.

“Audi and BP have always successfully collaborated in motorsport,” said Andreas Seidl, CEO of Audi F1. “We are thrilled to elevate this special partnership to a new level in Formula 1.”

“Audi stands for ‘Vorsprung durch Technik,’ and BP and Castrol also aspire to deliver the best technologies in fuels and lubricants. This is a perfect match.”

“Establishing this partnership at such an early stage is a strong signal for Audi’s future F1 factory team. We are aware of the appeal of the Audi F1 project and the number of renowned companies eager to work with Audi in Formula 1.”

Audi is “very advanced” in its development

Adam Baker, CEO of Audi Formula Racing, emphasized that fuels will be a crucial aspect of the 2026 regulations and spoke about the significance of this agreement: “This partnership is of great importance to us. There will be strong competition in sustainable fuels in Formula 1 starting in 2026.”

“Given the high performance potential, it was important for us to start our fuel testing at the end of 2022 with BP as our partner. The combustion process is very complex and can only be optimized by developing the engine in combination with fuel properties.”

“That’s why at Audi Formula Racing, where we are very advanced in developing the Audi F1 power unit, we are intensively using the three single-cylinder test benches allowed by FIA regulations for fuel development.”

“It’s impressive to see the number of fuel variants we have developed so far as we prepare for the 2026 racing season. I am confident that we are perfectly positioned with BP and Castrol.”

Nicola Buck, vice president of marketing at Castrol, expressed her excitement about the new collaboration: “We are proud that Audi has chosen to partner with BP and Castrol again, this time for their entry into Formula 1.”

“This gives our premium brands the opportunity to showcase our technical expertise at the pinnacle of motorsport. We are already making great progress with Audi F1 on developing BP fuel and Castrol lubricants as we seek to innovate and unlock maximum performance for Audi F1 from 2026 onwards.”
