Hamilton Eyes Vettel’s Ex-Engineer for Ferrari Move

14/07/2024

Hamilton explores a partnership with Vettel’s former Ferrari engineer, seeking valuable insights.

Lewis Hamilton is set to work with Sebastian Vettel’s former race engineer, Riccardo Adami, when he joins Ferrari in F1 2025.

Adami reportedly received high praise from Vettel when Hamilton reached out to the four-time world champion for insights into the race engineer’s approach.

Since 2021, Adami has been the race engineer for Carlos Sainz, the driver Hamilton will replace at Ferrari at the end of this year, securing three more Grand Prix wins, including this year’s Australian Grand Prix.

Hamilton’s teammate in F1 2025, Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, has been working with a new race engineer, Bryan Bozzi, since the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, after Xavier Marcos Padros, who previously held the position, was reassigned within Ferrari.

Hamilton had still hoped to bring “Bono” (Peter Bonnington, his engineer at Mercedes F1) along, but Toto Wolff is reportedly refusing his early departure, while “Bono” himself is said to be reluctant to leave England.

The British driver’s contract with Mercedes F1 (one year plus an optional extra year) contains a “non-poaching” clause, which prohibits him from directly persuading his current colleagues to join him at Ferrari in F1 2025.

Thus, Adami is set to be the voice in Hamilton’s ear next season, with the seven-time world champion having called Vettel some time ago to get a firsthand impression of how the race engineer operates.
