Albon Calls for Swift Choice of Capable Williams Mate

Williams F1’s Albon Awaits Fast, Team-Building Mate

12/07/2024

Alex Albon urges a quick decision on a fast, team-oriented co-driver for Williams F1’s upcoming season.

Alex Albon remains uncertain about his 2025 teammate at Williams F1.

Recent weeks suggested Carlos Sainz as a likely choice, wary of the Audi F1 project. However, the Spaniard has since received an offer from Alpine F1, promising a Mercedes engine by 2026, and even Toto Wolff has not ruled out pairing him with George Russell.

James Vowles, Williams F1’s director, is growing impatient, a sentiment not shared by Albon, though he admits he would like to know his future co-driver.

For his next teammate, Albon desires qualities that will aid both the team and his personal future development.

“Personally, I’m quite laid-back. It’s not my area of influence or decision—I’m quite open. But indeed, like the team, I would like to know soon who will be in the other seat.”

“I just want someone fast, from whom I can learn, and who can build the team and make it better. Even though this is the path we are taking and I want to do well, I am also aware of the impact that two drivers can have on the team’s progress and the car’s development.”

Albon, 28, already has substantial F1 experience. His desire to learn from someone shows he believes he can still do more to enhance his racing skills and fulfill his ambition of helping Williams return to the forefront of the grid.

“I’m sure it happens to Lewis, George, Charles, and Carlos—it happens to all teammates. You always learn, you never stop. The way I see my racing career is that each year, I’m working on eliminating my weaknesses.”

“Most of the time, it involves analyzing data, seeing how your teammate handles certain things, how they set up the car, their feedback. Even who they are as a person—how do they communicate with their engineers? How do they build their team around them? These are all things you can learn from.”
