Amidst evolving team hierarchies, RB F1 balances commendable efforts with a clear need for strategic improvements.
RB F1 scored a point at Silverstone thanks to Yuki Tsunoda, who secured tenth place at the British Grand Prix. Laurent Mekies, the team director from Faenza, praised the spectacle provided by Formula 1 this Sunday, noting that the British circuit remains a benchmark in motorsport.
“This weekend was a great advertisement for Formula 1 and showed that even as the sport expands into new markets, classic circuits like Silverstone still have much to offer. The large crowd clearly enjoyed themselves, and their enthusiasm was undiminished by the poor weather,” noted Mekies.
“From our perspective, it is clear that the fast nature of this circuit did not particularly suit our car, and we are not where we wanted to be, namely dominating the midfield as we did earlier in the season.”
“However, we return from this triple-header with another well-deserved point for Yuki and the team, who performed admirably under challenging and changeable conditions. Daniel was behind the same group in the midfield and finished outside the points despite a good fight.”
Mekies made an initial assessment of this season, which has just reached its midpoint: “This race marked the mid-season, the 12th of 24 rounds, and we have seen how quickly the hierarchy can change from one race to the next, from the front to the back of the grid.”
“It is more than ever a race for development, and everyone in Faenza and Bicester is looking for a crucial step forward in performance terms for our car.”
Jody Egginton, the technical director of RB F1, was pleased with the application of strategy within his ranks: “The weather certainly played its role, but overall, I believe we made the right decisions at the right times, which certainly helped to get a car into the points.”
“Yuki had a good race, making some overtakes in the early laps and having enough pace to stay in contact with those ahead. Daniel’s race day was not as straightforward. A problem was identified on his car before the race and required extensive work to get his car ready for the race.”
“In terms of overall performance, the midfield remains very tight, and the focus continues to be on aerodynamic updates to the car to advance our package and give us the best possible chance of scoring points.”
