Pirelli’s accurate tyre forecasts enhanced the thrilling racing dynamics at the Silverstone Grand Prix.
Pirelli celebrated the spectacle that F1 delivered at Silverstone during the British Grand Prix. The programme director, Mario Isola, was pleased with the manufacturer’s forecasts and appreciated that all used tyres played a positive role.
“We witnessed a very exciting Grand Prix after a very busy weekend, which provided great entertainment both on the track and in the stands. It was a testing weekend for us as we put almost our entire range of tyres through their paces in varying conditions on one of the most challenging circuits in the championship calendar,” stated Isola.
“From Friday, it was clear that the three dry-weather compounds could play a significant role in this race, and this was confirmed. In terms of strategy, the pre-race forecasts were more or less adhered to.”
“Apart from the rain, the length of the first stint on the mediums and the performance of the hard tyres for those like Verstappen and Sainz who used them in the last stint, demonstrated how competitive a C2/C1 combination could be.”
Pirelli had predicted that the soft tyres would struggle, and that was indeed the case, although Hamilton managed to preserve them until the victory: “Obviously, the C3 compound suffered a bit more, partly because it was used in attack mode towards the end of the race on a track still quite green from all the weekend’s rain.”
