Perez struggles again in Austria, significantly off the pace in a challenging race for Red Bull.
Starting 8th, Sergio Perez only finished 7th! The Red Bull Racing driver couldn’t even capitalise on issues ahead for Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, or Max Verstappen to perform better than usual.
The Mexican conceded that he was highly dissatisfied with his race, lagging about a second per lap behind his team leader on average.
“It’s hugely disappointing to find myself in this position today. The race started very well, and we got off to a good start, but then I suffered some damage on the first lap, which made the car difficult to steer, severely hindering my ability to compete for better positions,” he admitted.
“With the damage, the car was unbalanced and I made a mistake entering the pit lane, resulting in a 5-second penalty that set us back towards the end of the race.”
“There are several points on which we need to reflect and analyse thoroughly. Even without my damage, the race pace was questionable today as I felt we had made significant improvements from yesterday. Overall, we lacked performance; it was a very tough race and I struggled a lot.”
“Next weekend, I hope we can deliver a solid, clean race, and resolve the issues from this weekend to move forward since there are still many races left. Onwards to Silverstone.”
