Ricciardo shines as Red Bull secures more points, while Tsunoda grapples with ongoing issues in Austria.
Daniel Ricciardo finished ninth in the Austrian Grand Prix after a well-managed race. The RB F1 driver explained that it was challenging with a car lacking pace and a somewhat confusing start.
“It was a tough race, and I think we were a bit more on the defensive, so it required a lot of concentration and effort. I got off to a good start on the outside and it looked promising, but then I lost a few positions as there was no more room and I had to slow down,” Ricciardo lamented.
“Once we settled into the early part of the race, we performed well; the team did a good job with the strategy to secure the position over the Alpines, and then I felt I defended well against Fernando [Alonso] and then Pierre [Gasly] in the final stint.”
“We have made a significant step forward with the developments since Barcelona, and it was a better weekend, so I’m pleased to bring back some points. Now, we will try to take another step forward for Silverstone, and maybe that will put us in contention for points again.”
“I spent a lot of time watching my mirrors today, but I had Magnussen’s DRS in the last laps, so that was better. But for most of the stint, I wasn’t very quick in our group.”
Yuki Tsunoda experienced a drop in performance as the race progressed and is unclear why: “The race started well; I was behind the Alpines and Daniel after the start, but by the third stint, I was far behind. Suddenly, the pace was poor, and we need to figure out why—it’s a mystery.”
“Daniel did a good job during today’s race, so ultimately, we had a good conclusion, and we seem to understand better the direction we need to take as a team for the upcoming races, so that’s positive. For my part, there’s nothing positive.”
