Verstappen Camp Rift: Marko and Horner Clash Again

28/06/2024

Fresh discord strikes Red Bull as Horner and Marko’s rift widens, with Jos Verstappen sidelined at the parade.

Tensions have flared up again, publicly at least, within the Red Bull camp… in their home country of Austria this weekend.

It started with statements from Dr. Helmut Marko, who claimed that “Christian Horner’s plan” to save Daniel Ricciardo had failed and he had appointed Liam Lawson for 2025 without notifying anyone.

Peter Bayer, CEO of RB F1, had to explain, as we reported here, a CEO who was quite embarrassed trying to appease both sides…

Marko, with his stances, seems to clearly dissociate himself from the policy desired by Horner. In the paddock of the Red Bull Ring, he even isolated himself from the rest of the team for a good while during the media day yesterday. What will happen today and for the rest of the weekend, at home?

And while Max Verstappen wanted to clarify yesterday that he would indeed stay with Red Bull in 2025, another controversy erupted concerning his father, Jos, still at odds with Horner.

Jos Verstappen was supposed to participate in the Legends Parade this weekend at the Red Bull Ring, with a 2021 RB8. It would have been his first test of a Red Bull F1 car, even if it is not an old car of his son’s.

But Christian Horner, who discovered this “in total surprise,” managed to cancel the plan of Red Bull Austria, to the great anger of Jos Verstappen.

“These last few days, I’ve heard from several sources that Christian did everything he could to prevent me from driving, or otherwise, to make sure nothing was filmed. I wish he had told me to my face. It’s not necessary for me, I find it very disappointing.”

And so Jos Verstappen decided to simply cancel…

The Horner scandal is still very much ongoing and the publicly desired “ceasefire” has just taken a major hit, from both the Verstappen and Marko sides…
