Carlos Sainz is set to reveal his next F1 team, confirming that he has considered all available options.
Carlos Sainz has stated that he is on the brink of deciding which team he will drive for next year.
Having lost his seat at Ferrari to Lewis Hamilton for next season, Sainz is reportedly weighing up offers from Sauber, set to become Audi in 2026, and Williams. He announced that a decision is imminent.
“I’ve had all options on the table, I’m almost ready to make a decision and will do so very soon because I want to get it out of the way to focus on the rest of the year with Ferrari,” Sainz said yesterday in Spain, at an event ahead of his home Grand Prix this weekend.
“There has been time spent thinking about my next team and I’ve almost come to my conclusions. You’ll know very soon.”
“This year, I have a car that allows me to get on the podium and win some races, and I want to focus on that.”
He remains evidently disappointed to see his journey with Ferrari come to an end.
“It’s obvious that you don’t take it well. No one likes being left out, do they? I’ve had some great years at Ferrari, I started the year very well, but a seven-time world champion wanted to come and they made room for him. But I also see this as an opportunity for the future because I still want to be world champion.”
Sainz confirmed that he had received offers from “all the teams that haven’t signed their drivers for next year” and that he could “sign with them tomorrow if I wanted to,” but he did not specify whether he thought some teams had already signed their drivers but had not yet announced it.
The Spaniard also shared a small insight, expecting the appointments of Antonelli and Doohan.
“What is certain is that there will be very few new faces next year. There’s talk of Kimi (Antonelli) at Mercedes and Jack (Doohan) at Alpine F1.”
“There are now 20 drivers in Formula 1, and that is no longer enough in my opinion. Two new drivers will be added next year. That means eighteen drivers will stay in their places. Can you then calculate how slim your chances are of being one of those nineteen or twenty-year-old boys who manage to get into Formula 1?”
