Lando Norris anticipates a challenging race for McLaren F1 in Canada, highlighting formidable rivals on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
McLaren F1 has contended for pole and victory in the last three races, and Lando Norris hopes to continue this trend in Canada this weekend. However, the Briton is also wary of seeing more formidable competition at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
“Canada is the next step! I enjoy racing in Montreal; it’s a fun circuit with some challenging sections that make it more exciting. Our car has performed well on various types of tracks, but we know we will have our work cut out for us in Canada. Our competitors will likely be very strong,” said Norris.
“It was good to have a week off after the doubleheader at Imola-Monaco. We came away with two podiums and a lot of points for the team. I had productive sessions with my engineers at the MTC, and I’m eager to see what we can achieve this weekend.”
Oscar Piastri is in high spirits after his podium finish in Monaco and hopes to maintain his momentum after a very positive weekend in the Principality: “Monaco was special. I felt it throughout the three days, and standing on the podium in Senna’s colours in those streets was sensational.”
“When I was young in Australia, I dreamed of Monaco, so it’s nice to win a trophy in one of the great classics. I’m pleased with my driving at the moment, particularly the consistency I’ve shown over the last three weekends.”
“Progress is never linear, but I enjoy showcasing what I can do and driving this car, with which the team has done an excellent job. I hope that in Canada, we can pick up where we left off because the situation at the top of the grid is very tight, and we want more.”
McLaren seeks to “consolidate” its position at the front
Andrea Stella, McLaren F1’s team principal, reflects positively on the doubleheader at Imola and Monaco but knows that the hardest work remains ahead for his team. The goal now is to maintain the same level of performance until the end of the season.
“We are happy to have returned to the factory with two second-place trophies. The strong results from Lando and Oscar have helped us consolidate our position in the Constructors’ Championship. However, we are only at the beginning of the season, so we need to work hard to continue achieving these results,” said the Italian.
And this goal starts this weekend in Montreal: “The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a favourite among drivers and fans, and it presents some new challenges compared to the circuits we have raced on since the beginning of the year.”
“We approach this year’s Canadian Grand Prix with more optimism than last year but knowing we will have to fight hard to be competitive here. Our aim is to build a car that can be consistently competitive on all types of circuits, and the team is working hard to unlock this performance.”
