Esteban Ocon responds to criticism received since Monaco, addressing fans and confirming his participation in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
Ocon took to social media to address Formula 1 and the fans, following the criticism he has faced since the Monaco Grand Prix and his first-lap collision.
In this message, he tackles the negative comments directed at him, acknowledges his responsibility for the Monaco incident but asserts his ability to work as a team and will continue to do so with Pierre Gasly.
Ocon also assures that he expects to race in Canada, which seems to rule out the possibility of a disciplinary sanction from Alpine F1.
Esteban Ocon’s full message:
“A lot has been said following the Monaco Grand Prix. While I have received many supportive messages, I have been deeply saddened by the amount of abuse and negativity I’ve received online regarding my character, driving, and career.”
“Thanks to hard work, support, and the sacrifices of many people, I have participated in over 140 Grands Prix since my debut in 2016. I have always been a tough competitor and, like most drivers, I have had my share of incidents.”
“I have been fortunate to race alongside talented and experienced teammates, including race winners like Daniel, Checo, and Pierre, and a double champion in Fernando.”
“As teammates, we often started races very close to each other, which in some cases meant tough battles on the track and sometimes contact.”
“Of course, I have made mistakes. We are not robots; we are athletes pushing ourselves to the limit every day to achieve our dreams of winning races. F1 is a sport where emotions run high, and the passion is deep and intense. I see it and feel it every weekend, on track and on social media—the good and the bad.”
“But the unfounded claims and gross distortions I have seen online in recent days about my ability to work as a team are false, hurtful, and damaging.”
“Since my early days in motorsport, I have approached this sport with humility, professionalism, and respect. These values have been instilled in me from a very young age. While every driver seeks individual glory, it will always remain a team sport first and foremost. I have always followed the instructions given to me and raced to achieve the best for and with my team.”
“I took responsibility for the first-lap incident on Sunday and, despite my retirement, I am glad the team could add a point to their tally in what has been a challenging start to the season for all of us.”
“I respect Pierre as a teammate and as a competitor. We have always worked collaboratively and professionally within the team and will continue to do so.”
“In Formula 1, there is no reward without risk—and race starts are intense, even more so in Monaco where the first lap can dictate your final result.”
