Stella Hails Verstappen’s Consistency

23/05/2024

McLaren boss Andrea Stella praises Max Verstappen’s incredible consistency, highlighting his impressive starts and race-winning strategies. Stella’s admiration underscores Red Bull’s dominance and Verstappen’s exceptional skill.

A pole position Max Verstappen is a formidable challenge.

This is the view of Andrea Stella, McLaren F1 Team Principal, following his team’s defeat at Imola last weekend.

“I think if we look at Verstappen’s consistent starts, it’s simply incredible.”

“It’s true that when he secures pole position, it’s rare to see him lose the lead at the first corner. This consistency in his starts is the result of excellent work.”

“I often mention how much I admire the fact that Max and Red Bull can win so consistently, as things can go wrong in many ways.”

To beat Red Bull, one must avoid mistakes as early as Saturday during qualifying and seize small advantages wherever possible. According to Stella, this is also one of Verstappen’s strengths.

“We acknowledged our mistake in not warning Oscar about Magnussen’s approach, which cost him three positions.”

“We proved with an error during qualifying that we are not operating at 100%. But Lando couldn’t have done better.”

“Max was also smart in seeking a tow for pole position, which was crucial in the race result.”

“Max is consistent in his starts, knows how to prepare his tyres, and uses the right engine modes during acceleration, which gives him a small advantage.”

“At the start, Lando had a slightly better reaction time than Max. But with Max’s well-executed starts, you can’t gain the position even with that.”

“All of this shows that you must perform well in all areas to succeed. And that’s what we are trying to do.”
