Audi is keen on signing Carlos Sainz for 2025, emphasizing their ambition in a dynamic driver market.
Audi is now openly discussing the possibility of recruiting Carlos Sainz for 2025 and beyond as an “important goal.”
Earlier, it was believed that Audi had set a deadline for the Spaniard to leave Ferrari.
But now that Nico Hülkenberg has already signed, the team’s representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi stated in Imola that there is no longer a deadline – partly explaining the sudden pause in the “silly season” of transfers.
“No,” Bravi responded when asked if there was a new deadline.
“I don’t think any of the other drivers have a time limit to decide here or elsewhere either.”
“We are all discussing, trying to understand the possible moves. There are several opportunities for these top drivers, but it is a dialogue, not a confrontation between the team and the driver.”
“We have secured Hülkenberg and now we are waiting and checking all possibilities with the time needed for us and the driver.”
Sainz, 29, is naturally awaiting Toto Wolff’s decision at Mercedes F1, who is also evaluating Kimi Antonelli, but also at Red Bull – with Sergio Perez not yet signed for 2025.
“It is normal for a driver of his caliber to want to carefully evaluate all possibilities,” says Bravi. “We have interesting weeks ahead of us.”
“We are working hard to develop this team and be able to offer our drivers a competitive future. And it’s clear that we don’t have just one name on the list, but it is also clear that Sainz is a top driver and an important target, not only for us but also for other teams.”
“Let’s just say that we are talking and that Carlos also has top-level options. But we have also talked to everyone, starting with (Valtteri) Bottas and (Guanyu) Zhou and other drivers in the market who see the Audi project with great enthusiasm and interest.”
“We don’t want to be a second choice. We want to be ‘the’ choice.”
